Major events in his life.

George Braque was born on the 13th of may 1882. He grew up near Paris, and in 1902 he settled there to study painting.  He really liked pictures by the fauves who painted with bright colours. He painted in those styles until 1908.  In 1908 Braque began to paint in the cubist style.  Between 1908 and 1913 he began to study light and perspective. Braque developed his painting skills while working for his father, a house decorator. Meeting Picasso marked a huge point in Braque’s development and together they began works of Cubism. Braque was mobilized into the French Army in 1914, and a head wound he received in 1915 made him temporarily blind so that he could not paint again until 1917. This totally changed his style of his painting. He began works on cubism as he believed ‘art should be autonomous and not merely imitate nature’.
