James Madison was the 4th president of the U.S. Here is a short history of his life.

James Madison’s full name was James Madison Jr. His nickname was the Father of the Constitution. He was born on March 16, 1751. James Madison was the fourth president of the U.S. He was president from 1809-1876. He died on June 28, 1836. James Madison was born at Port Conway, Virginia. His father was also named James. Nellie Conway Madison was his mother. He went to school at Princeton University after he went to Donald Robertson School. His religion was Episcopalian. Before he was president James Madison was a lawyer.

James Madison was elected president because of important things he did before he was president. His wife was Dolley Madison. He had two vice presidents they were George Clinton and Elbridge Gerry. During his term, The War of 1812 begins. The Star-Spangled Banner was written. Then, during his term the new White House is being built, and the U.S. wins The Battle of New Orleans. During his term, Louisiana and Indiana become states. James Madison also helped the U.S. win the War of 1812. James Madison was 5 feet 6 inches. His favorite food was ice cream. He had a pet Macaw. A Macaw is a type of parrot. He said, “The advice nearest to my heart and deepest in my convictions is that the Union of the states be cherished and perpetuated,” at the end of his second term. He said this because he wanted the United States to stay united. It means that his advice is for the United States is to stay as one.

After he was President, he moved to Montpelier. Managing his estate kept him busy. Then he became President of The University of Virginia
