John Passoss and the Body of an American

John Passoss is one of the eminent writers of US history.His writings have inspired many people.The Body of an American is one of his masterpieces.

John Dos Passos (1896-1970) is an eminent figure of US History, who influenced many minds with his writing skills. He is the author of many fiction novels .One of his supreme novel is ‘The Body of an American’; in which he propagates his sarcasm against war and its causes.

To illustrate his sarcasm, he has weaved the whole novel around a single character, John Doe, who faces the consequences of war and its aftermath. The message conveyed by John Dos Passos is mainly focused on the horrors of war and its brutalities.” The Body of an American,” is written in the context of World War I,(1913-1919);which killed many a thousands .The estimated carnage of World  war I was about 10 million  and about 20 million wounded and paralyzed for their whole life.” The Body of an American” criticizes the causes and aftermaths of war. John Dos Passos experienced this war through his own eyes and possess a negative view of it since he calls it a futile exercise wasting so many lives and resources .The body of an American also indicates to the presence of radicalism element in US society as fruits of this horrific war. Since US entered in this war and it affected immensely on her economy giving rise to Great Depression in 1930.

The aftermath of Great Depression of 1930s raising the unemployment toll and shrinking public relief, resulted in the form of pessimist   U.S. citizens. Many banks defaulted and people were deprived of their money. The inflation rate went high and people gradually lost their ability to purchase. There were hues and cries all around. The economic systems were clueless to this problem. John Dos Passos criticizes the ugliness and brutalities of war and the role of nobles during and after war .In the character of John Doe, he describes how viciously the war affects a common man and in turn converts the society in to a confused mob.
