Leonardo Da Vinci
Learn all about Leonardo da Vinci and all the great things he has done.
You can observe many things in this painting. This is a very detailed painting with many shades of color. This picture takes in midday. You can tell because the leaves on the trees in the back round are all shiny and many different colors. The mountains in the back round are magnificent blue and white.
The texture of this painting is wavy with smooth strokes of paint. In this painting, Jesus, the son of god, is eating at the last supper with some of his disciples. In this painting Leonardo Da Vinchi mostly use the primary colors and the secondary colors.
The shape of Jesus in this painting resembles the shape of a triangle. Jesus, the main point of this painting is located in the middle of the painting. Jesus’ hair is long, brown, and wavy and looks very realistic compared to real hair. His robes are very long and baggy. On the right his robe is the color red. On his left the robe is the color blue. In the picture a man seated to the left of Jesus lifts a finger at him. He is located in a room in the middle of a cathedral. You can see the back round in a rectangular window. Jesus is eating fish, apples, and bread. He is also drinking red wine. In this painting Jesus seems to be in a good mood. Jesus is partially smiling and is eating with all of his disciples at a special ceremony and an important day in the Christian religion. He is eating at a beautiful whitish blue marble table that is the size of an oversized picnic table. The table looks very smooth and almost has no blemishes. A cool fact about this painting is that it is a fresco. It is very worn down because it is about five hundred years old. It is also only a partial part of a humongous painting that Da Vinci painted on an absolutely great white wall.
You can tell that he was very enthusiastic of his work by how long he spent painting his work and by the detail he put in to the paintings that he did. You can just picture the time it must have took to paint the supper detailed painting he did. The faces in the painting have such detail in their faces it is unbelievable. Those are the observations you can make of this painting.
I like this painting a lot. You could put it in a group of five hundred different paintings and it would be the one to catch tour eye. The people’s hair is filled with beautiful detail. When you look in the back round you also see loads of rich detail. It is amazing; it almost is like you are looking at a photograph. One of the only things I do not like about this painting is that it is only part of humongous fresco that Da Vinci actually painted for a church that requested it.
In the real painting you can see that there are many people and that they are in a whole big room where you can see out of many more windows instead of just one.
One thing I like about the time period it is set in is the way the disciples dressed. They wore brightly colored robes that were very long and baggy. I also like that Jesus is not wearing an ugly white, gray, brown, or tan robe. In my opinion those are all very ugly colors. Jesus was wearing a glorious red and blue robe.
Today most of us eat on old wooden tables. Back then and in this painting, they eat on these magnificent marble tables that I would only be honored to eat on. Today a real marble table like that might be worth thousands of dollars. In the picture the marble table is very wide and smooth witch means that it must be at least fairly new.
I noticed when I first looked at this painting that Jesus was eating some of my favorite foods. He is eating apples, buttered bread, and my favorite of them all, the fish. That made the painting just that much more appealing. They used to eat a lot less than we do today. They also ate a lot healthier. Altogether this painting is very beautiful. That is my conclusion opinion of this painting.
One major famous event that happened during Da Vinci’s life was when Christopher Columbus claimed to have discovered America. Early in Columbus’s sailing life he had a shipwreck. This slowly tarnished his reputation. To try and regain his full reputation back he asked the Portuguese king and queen for the command of a westward expedition and they refused to give him one.
In 1485 he left Portugal and went to the king and queen of Spain. Queen Isabella agreed to his requests and gave him command to three small vessels. They were named the Nina, the Pinto, and the Santa Marina. He also got a crew of ninety men. He left Palos, Spain on august 3, 1492.
Early in his expedition he stopped at the Canary Islands and then headed westward across the Atlantic Ocean. He sailed for one whole month and never spotted a speck of land. Because it to so long to spot land Columbus’s crew tried to mutiny him. A member of the crew finally spotted land witch was one of the Bahamas’ Islands. When he arrived he encountered many Native Americans. He made bad trades with them to benefit him best. Then he left there taking with him many of them. Then when he arrived in Spain, he made all the Native Americans turn into Christians or become slaves. He also got 10% of all the profits he made trading. This regained his reputation again. That is how Columbus discovered America.
Leonardo Da Vinci was born at Vinci, near Florence, Italy, on April 15, 1452. His fathers name was Sir Pietro. Leonardo was early baptized by Pieroda Bartolomeo as a Catholic. Went to school and learned Latin. Did all of his notes in Italian.
On August 5, 1473, Leonardo painted his first painting, Arno Valley. In 1476 he did another painting called The Baptism of Christ. Leonardo had his own workshop between 1476 and 1478.
On April 8, 1476, Leonardo Da Vinci was accused of homosexuality with a man named Jacopo Saltarelli. All charges were taken off when he was found to be not guilty.
In 1478 he did one of his most well known paintings, Madonna. In 1480 he did the painting The Small Annunciation witch today is located in Louvre. In 1481 he also did the painting Saint Jerome. In 1481-1482 he painted the picture The Adoration of the Kings. In 1481 Leonardo moved to Milan. In 1499 Leonardo left Milan to serve Duke Ludovico Srorza. While there he worked on canals, planned construction of buildings, one of these is the dame of the cathedral. From 1503-1507 Leonardo did his most famous painting, the Mono Lisa.
Leonardo was invited in 1516 by King Francis to live in Amboise. On his way up he was carrying the Mono Lisa with him. He lived in a castle called Cloux. He died there in his sleep on May 2, 1519.
Another famous event occurred when Ponce de Leon was the first Spaniard to explore Florida. In 1493 Leon sailed with Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the Americas. They settled at the Dominican Republic and became a military commander and was appointed deputy governor. In 1506 he discovered Boprinquen. While he was there he discovered immense amounts of gold. He left there and went to report his great new findings to the king and queen of Spain. In 1508 he received orders to go back to the island and colonize it. He renamed the island Puerto Rico. He was the governor of Puerto Rico from 1508-1510 until his was replaced by Columbus’s son. While he was in Puerto Rico he heard stories from the Native Americans of a so called Fountain of Youth. This ”Fountain of Youth” was believed to make elders become younger. When he got there he neither found the Fountain of Youth nor gold. In 1515 he landed in present day St. Augustine. He claimed the new found land for Spain. Since he discovered the new land he named it La Florida meaning place of many flowers. That is how Ponce de Leon was the first Spanish person to ever explore Florida.
