Martin Luther King Junior

Martin Luther King Junior

Biography on Martin Luther King Junior.

Martin Luther King Jr., was a bold man of unique greatness who changed the lives of millions of people. His dream was for all people to be treated equally, and he spoke of global unity. As he tried to fulfill his dream, in his lifetime, he limited his acts to non-violence. Sadly his dream has yet to be realized, but when it will, the world will be a much more justified place. In this essay, you will learn who he was, what he fought for and what he accomplished.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was a black peacemaker who believed in non-violence. He was very optimistic and lived up to his beliefs with great determination. Dr King was born on January 15th, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. As he grew up, he was frequently discriminated because of his black skin color. The segregation that he experienced made him more determined to end racial prejudices. For example, when he was a small kid, he had a white neighbor, who, over time, became a very close friend. They did everything together for many years but one day, when young Martin Luther King Jr. went to his friends’ house the mother opened the door. She told Dr. King, harshly, that he could not spend time with her son because he was black. Then she slammed the door on the eight year old. Martin Luther King was very depressed but his family helped him by sympathizing. As King grew up he learned more about discrimination and how Africans were treated. Soon he finished schooling and became one of the leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, and married Correta Scott King. As he grew up, he learned more about the kind of treatment Africans received. He decided he would fight for all blacks to end this disgraceful, harsh prejudice.

Martin Luther King Jr., as he was leader of The Civil Rights Movement, fought for many things that revolved around one huge idea. To end discrimination, he fought for the same ideas as Mahatma Gandhi, who had inspired him, and preached for brotherhood. But as he struggled for all these rights, he limited his acts to non-violence. He supported justice, and lived up to his dream of global unity and made sure laws of non discrimination were made and all previous laws were enforced.

In his lifetime, Dr. King, accomplished many things. He triggered the start of a long process of integration between blacks and whites, and made many whites understand the despicable way they were treating African-Americans. Along with that, he had many more accomplishments such as in 1955, he graduated from Boston College, with a PhD in divinity (religion) and became leader of the Montgomery Bus Boycott that same year. In 1963, after some years of fighting for freedom, he led the march in Washington D.C., and gave one of the most famous speeches of all times. The “I have a dream” speech was a lecture in which Dr. King, put all of his deepest desires, and told hundreds of thousands of Americans about ending racial discrimination. The next year, he was the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner, for his work on peace. The Time magazine, gave him the honor of “Person of the year”. Finally after many years, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act, a law that stated that it was illegal to discriminate someone because they are a different color or race. Martin Luther King Jr.’s last speech was very important, for in it, he emphasized that people should continue to fight for freedom even after his death. The next day, he was sadly killed by an assassins’ bullet, and to this day he is remembered for starting the movement of equality.

Martin Luther King Jr.s’ dream of equality and no discrimination has partly been fulfilled. There have been laws passed stating that prejudice is illegal, but sadly people still mistreat different people because of race, color, national origin, gender, and/or religion (etc.) People are trying harder to move away from discrimination, and have done a lot. One day, people will look at all the things Martin Luther King Jr. had done and think that if it was not for him, we would still be stuck in the same ditch that we were in 30 years ago. One day, we will all have global unity and look back to thank Martin Luther King- For one day, all the things he fought for will at last, happen!

It is your job to make it happen………..
