Neil Armstrong
The life of Neil Armstrong written as an autobiography.
Hi, my name is Neil Alden Armstrong and I will be talking about my child hood, my early years prier to my career in NASA, and what I did in NASA.
I was born on August 5, 1930 in Wapakoneta, Ohio. I was interested in planes when I was very young… in 1932 I was only 2 years old when I saw my first ever air race. I loved planes for the rest of my life. Four years after the plane race I got to take my very first plane ride on a plane they call the “tin goose”. While sitting on wicker seats I loved hearing the tri-motors of the tin goose. My dad thought I would hate the bumpy, noisy, tilting plane but I LOVED the trip on the bumpy, noisy, tilting plane. A few days after the flight in the “tin goose” my mom and I passed a hobby shop where I persuaded my mom to buy my first model airplane and she bought it for me. That night I carefully assembled the balsa wood pieces and guess what I got… my first model airplane. I had to move again, but the good thing is that I made friends that like model airplanes just like me. Their names are Konstantin Solacoff and Bud Blackford. I got my first job mowing in between the gravestones at a cemetery in town. There was a big disappointment when almost everything was rationed in
Upper Sandusky. I had to join the cub scouts and I was in Pac 24. My life was about to change.
I moved back to Wapakoneta, Ohio when I was 14 years old. My fellow cubs and I all wanted our astronomy badge. We got to go to Mr.Zinks telescope. I became a pilot and was an aeronautical engineer. On August 5, 1956 on my 16th I got my piloting licenses. I made my own windtunnel so I could test out my new airplane designs. While I was attending the Blume High School my science teacher said I should go on to collage… but collage was so expense I could not afford it. On my last year of high school I got a letter saying I got a scholarship from the U.S. navy saying I could go to any collage I want. I was so existed that I ran down stairs to tell my mom when she had a jar of fruit in her hand then when I yelled she dropped the jar on her tow and broke it. I chose to go to Purdue because it had a good aerospace class. I stayed they’re for two years and then went into the navy. I joined squadron 51 and served in the Koran war, I participated in 78 dogfights
On September 17,1962, I was accepted into the NASA program. I was elected to be in the Gemini space program. Gemini was going to orbit the earth stay their and re-enter the atmosphere. We stayed up there for 8 days a U.S. record. I was most famous for the Apollo 11 mission, which was to launch on July 20, 1969. I think there were around 1,000,000 people on cape Canaveral when we launched at 9:32 AM (EDT). The crew was Edwin”buzz”Aldrin, Michael Collins, me. The Saturn V rocket booster powered us. We stayed in touch with Houston. We entered the Eagle at 3:00PM. We landed in the “sea of tranquility” at 3:17PM. Also at that time when he first stepped on the lunar surface he launched his famous statement
“One small step for man, one giant leap for man kind,” but he says he was supposed to say
“This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind,” I took some samples and we headed home
As you can see I had a giant effect on exploration.
