Robert Frost’s Life

Robert Frost’s Life

A short summary of his life.

“That was father as he went to war,” this is a line from one of Robert Frost’s poems called “The Black Cottage.”  Robert Frost has some very emotional poems that could make you think about the way you live your life.  Robert was a great poet using his mind to create poems.  A lot of his poems were based on his family.  The life experiences, hopes, and emotions of Robert Frost are evident demonstrated within his poems are “The Black Cottage,” “In a Disused Graveyard,” and “The Butterfly.”
Early in Robert Frost’s life he had lived with his parents, William Prescott Jr. (“Robert Frost,” December 14, 2008).  His father was a drinker and a hard gambler. While going through all that he suffered his father’s death on May 5, 1885. Robert’s interest in poems started when he had finished high school.  He met Elinor Miriam White, and was engaged in 1892. Soon after Robert had passed the exams for Harvard, he decided to go to Dartmouth instead since it was cheaper (“Robert Frost,” December 14, 2008).
When Robert had married Elinor his family moved to England to focus primarily on writing poetry.  Robert than wrote, “A Boy’s Will” to be accepted by a London publisher.  Than in 1915, Robert had returned to America with fame and glory. Robert than won the Mark Twain award in 1937(Schmidt, 503).  Robert would soon after give speeches to different colleges, and receive many honorary titles.
Robert Frost’s poem “The Black Cottage” explains how after many years a black little cottage still stands after many of fighting during the Civil War. Also how a family used to live there and one by one a family member would leave the house. This caused the mother who lived in the black cottage pain. After these many years Robert had found this cottage untouched.
“Everything’s as she left it when she died,” is a line from “The Black Cottage” (Robert Frost-North of Boston, December 15, 2008).Robert tries to explain that the family never touched any of the mother’s possessions when she had passed away.  If they had touched her possessions the cottage would have been disturbed.   “That was the father as he went to war.”  This is another line from “The Black Cottage,” and how the mother’s husband had went to the Civil War. Because of this the mother suffers, and soon after her two boys leave.
“There is none left to mourn in these fields.” That is a line from “My Butterfly,” (My Butterfly, December 17, 2008).  What Robert means by that is that you cannot save everyone you love.  Also what Robert means is that there is a beautiful butterfly in the beginning.
At the end of the poem however it is old and decrypted. Robert uses a lot of emotion in this poem to show how he feels. To show how he feels to his loved ones. How everyone must live their lives beautifully.
Robert Frost’s poem “In a Disused Graveyard” explains how people come and go but the living don’t want to face death (Robert Frost’s poems, December 17, 2008).  Not wanting death will fear, and thus our souls will be gone.  “How no one dead will seem to come what is it men are shrinking from? This is a line from “In a Disused Graveyard.”  This line means that everyone awaits death in fear and no does anything constructive during their life.
“The livings come with grassy tread” is another line from “In a Disused Graveyard.” (Robert Frost’s poems, December 17, 2008). Robert is trying to explain that not all people will want to walk the Earth. The meaning of this poem is that everyone must face death, but everyone is scared to do so.
All these poems show that Robert Frost is a great poet, and deserves all the credit that his has gotten.  While getting this fame his life did not worsen because of it. He loved his family the most, and will never forget them. These emotional poems will make you think about going into poetry.  The life experiences, hopes, and emotions of Robert Frost are evident demonstrated within his poems are “The Black Cottage,” “In a Disused Graveyard,” and “My Butterfly.”
