Roman Polanski won an Oscar Award for the movie the ‘Pianist’.  At the proposition of American officials, Polanski was arrested entering Switzerland for an award from the Zurich Film Festival on September 2, 2009. The arrest was from a 1978 charge of which he plead guilty to having sex with a 13 year old.  The girl is now an adult living in Hawaii and doesn’t want Polanski to serve any more prison time.

Now it is time for a quick biography.  Before he changed his name, Polanski was born Raymond in Paris France on August 18, 1933.  He was born to Polish-Jewish parents.  His parents were living in Paris when he was born.  Two years before WWII began,his family moved back to Poland.  After WWII started, the Germans were sealing off the Krakow ghetto from which he called his hometown. His father told him to run, he did this and escaped.  He lived in the country areas of Poland with various Catholic families.  His mother wasn’t so lucky and died in the gas chamber at a concentration camp.

The people he lived with didn’t go to the movies because they mostly showed German movies.  Polanski didn’t care and went to the movies often.

He eventually reunited with his father in 1945. His father sent him to technical school.  But Polanski already made up his mind to make a living in movies.

When he graduated from school, ‘Knife in the water’ was his first feature length film.  This movie won a plethora of awards and was Polanski’s introduction to Hollywood.

Polanski’s second wife was Sharon Tate who was murdered by Charles Manson and his cult of followers, in their home in Hollywood and it was a random target.

Polanski’s s famous for the 1968 movie ‘Rosemary’s Baby’.
