Hats, just like other things requires care and maintenance for it to look good. Proper care and maintenance of hats helps to prolong their life span. The following tips will help to prolong your hat’s life span.
- Take care in handling your hat by the brim to avoid pinching the hat by the crown to pick it up as this may result in misshapen crowns and may split the felt.
- After being caught in the rain with your hat, turn out the sweat band of your hat and provide appropriate platform for it in order for it to dry quickly and properly.
- Whenever misshapen occur , gently push out the creases and dents to make the hat crown as round as possible.
- Avoid applying direct heat to your hat as this may cause it to loss shape or shrink.
- Storing your hat in a hat box is another helpful tip that will in keeping it clean and new.
- Avoid leaving your hat in the hands of amateur cleaners. For example heavy sweat stain needs professional attention because the sweat has penetrated deep into the body of the felt.
- Never handle your hat with dirty hands.
- When handling your hat, always pick it up from underneath by both the front and back brim to maintain its shape. Resting the hat on a hat stand would make this operation much easier.

- Keep all hats away from extended periods of time in the sun. It will eventually dry up the straws, causing it to break age

- If a straw gets wet, first wipe off the surplus water with a clean dry cloth.
- If the straw hat has bad soaking, the sweatband should be turned out and the hat stood on its band while drying. This permits air circulation to all parts.
