Say No to Branded Products, Say No to Nike
The number of Brand conscious people are increasing at a greater rate. The concept of elite society, high class, high self esteem and power is growing in many societies all over the world..Is this really a positive approach??
Say No to Branded Products, Say No to Nike.
In today’s world many people are becoming brand conscious and cognizant. The famous brands of Nike, Air Jordan, Body Shop, Marks & Spencer etc. are becoming increasingly popular among the youth and adults around the globe.
The basic brand that I am going to discuss here is Nike. Instantly recognized through out the world, the Nike swoosh sometimes seems to be everywhere on shirts, caps, shoes and pants. The icon is however no longer confined to shoes as sponsorship deals have plastered the swoosh across jerseys and sporting arenas of all manner from basket ball to football to volley ball to track to soccer to tennis to hockey.
The history of the manufacturing of the Nike products goes back to the 1950s. “Before there was the Swoosh, before there was Nike, there were two visionary men who pioneered a revolution in athletic footwear that redefined the industry. Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight made the first sample shoes of Nike. In 1960’s they shook hands to form Blue Ribbon Sports, in 1970’s Nike’s logo ‘Swoosh’ was designed. (Nikebiz.com).

There are many negative points that are going against the Nike products. For example Nike advertisements have always featured the African Americans as hip hop, gangsters and drug dealers. Although they have portrayed the famous basket ball player Michael Jordan, but in many other advertisements the Black are often featured as hooligans and criminals.
The other reasons that go against Nike are the child labor. They get their shoes stitched from the under developed countries like Pakistan, where millions of children do their work in stitching their shoes. Why doesn’t Nike get their products stitched from well developed countries like U.S and U.K???
On the other hand the great celebrities and palyers wear these branded shoes! What a great Difference!

In this case is Globalization showing a negative impact or a positive one?? The answer definitely goes in negative because Nike Companies in the Western countries are getting profits from the underdeveloped countries by giving the labor low wages.
The cost of Nike shoes ranges from $130-$5000!! Wow! What a huge deal…Still people are spending a lot on these products just to be in a category of elite class! Can anyone Justify this??
