The origin of the name of this shop comes from meme (pronounced mi: m), a unit of cultural information, a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally from one mind to another by learning or imitation.  Examples include thoughts, ideas, theories, gestures, practices, FASHIONS, habits, songs, and dances.   Great name and ambitious project.  Yes, maybe someone should take over the minds of all humans and dress them all in a hip, cool, fresh style.  Not a bad idea at all, if the clothes are coming from Memes, a very small shop, with not too much hype, hidden within the streets and buildings of New York.

If you are looking for the ordinary, don’t come to Memes!  Maybe you haven’t heard yet of some of Memes’ underground designers from America, Europe, and Japan, but they could be the next hot thing.  We place our bets on Jeremy Scott, Mad Anthony (his varsity jackets are the must haves for naughty weather), and Brooklyn based designer Just Another Rich Kid (his jewelry collection of dices, skull and bones, shovels, grenades, playboy bunny, and marijuana leaves are never out of style, while his cool tees start at $33).

Are you looking for a present that says “dope” for you or a friend?  It’s hard finding that right something, but at Memes you have an interesting selection to choose from: denim, accessories, sneakers such as Nike, Adidas, Originals, 10.Deep, Undr-Crwn, Chimala, PRPS, Y3, Suvas, Reebok (they have the new Omni Lite Pumps, Gold and Silver, with nice 3M touch around the lace holes), Christopher Bevans, Brian Wood, etc., etc.  And while you are at it grab a pair of cool shades.  Who doesn’t look good in a pair of Gazelles?  And who can resist authentic, vintage Dior and Gucci shades from Rare?

The store interior looks cozy to browse through, and the staff is very knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly.  They will patiently show you all the selections, from nice, lightweight seersucker shorts from SABITLight weight, to all over Triko hoodies and shorts, to the new, limited edition tees from Kid Robot X Kozik, or the Rotten Apple.  A look all your girlfriends will want to copy from you is the MOB (who are stepping up their Cut and Sew game), with their lips and clovers, or “bitches” hoodies.   Or get your hands on some Premium Label anniversary exclusives.
