3G iPhone: What Exactly is MMS Compared to Others?

How you can benefit from MMS which has been released to the 3G iPhone.

MMS has been released on the 3G iPhone. But what exactly is MMS? How can it benefit you? This guide will help you explain all the ’pros’ and ‘cons’ with this new feature.

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service. SMS is just old school right now, and we need to come back up to date. With MMS, you can send media to others instead of just text messages – Media being items such as videos, music, radio segments and more! You might want to send videos of your baby taking its first step! MMS greatly increases the number of functions that your iPhone has.

Still not interested in MMS? Some ‘pros’ are:

  • MMS allows you to send video clips and music. An example is that if a new song got released in country and you were on a holiday or not in the country at the time, it would be possible for someone to send you the music.
  • MMS allows longer message length, preventing you from needing to send multiple messages.
  • MMS helps with office working if someone only has access to their phone pictures can be sent across and aid problems.

Some ‘cons’/interesting challenges that MMS face are:

  • MMS requires a number of handset parameters and when MMS fails is often blamed as the first point/reason.
  • MMS is quite expensive and a lot more than SMS (The charge varies between providers and countries, so check with your local provider if you would like to send a MMS).
  • Not all phones are compatible with MMS so if the recipient can’t receive it it could be hard to send one.
  • MMS specifications do not include distribution lists (CC, carbon copy) nor methods which assist in sending a message to multiple people.

Therefore, MMS is helpful at times but should not be used too often. It could blast a big hole in your budget if you don’t use it properly.
