A First Person Shooter Application on the iPhone/iPod Touch

How I think a really good one could be made.

Several Application developers have made a great effort in trying to make a First Person Shooter application for the iPhone and iPod Touch, however they have not been very satisfying to play due to the complex control scheme which implicates the built in accelerometer for all movement. However I think that a much better First Person shooter could be made on the App Store by having a control pad built in to the screen for the player to use to control the on screen character. On each side there should also be a number of other buttons that give the character option to climb, jump, change weapon or shoot. The picture below shows what the Application would look like with the control scheme around the side. I have used and XBOX Controller as an example for the control scheme and Call of Duty World at War as the image to show what it could be like.

The accelerometer would also be used but for less than what other First Person Shooter Applications use it for. Tilting it back would be used to crouch, and forward to stand up, and if used when standing to sprint. Tilting left and right would make the on screen character roll to the corresponding side to dodge bullets e.t.c.. Any Application developers reading this, I hope you have god ideas from this Article. If you wish to create a first Person Shooter Application in this design feel free to as I would love to play a First Person shoot on the iPod Touch/iPhone that feels just like playing it on a games console.
