CD Players: A Technological Treasure

CD Players: A Technological Treasure

CD players are being forgotten and “pushed-aside” as new and flashier music players are made, though, none of them could compare to the value and quality of a CD player.

The popular Ipods and Mp3 players of today lack in comparison to the CD players of the past. Though the bright screens and graphics that come along with today’s popular music players are attractive and enticing, they are also very energy consuming making them very costly to operate. CD players are usually run on two AA batteries and are able to last hours longer then other music players. Efficiently using energy only to display track and play list information, the battery life used to run CD players is conserved because there is no need to light up a bright display full of graphics. Error detection is also made easier with CD players.

If a song skips when being played via CD player the user can simply remove the CD the music file is located on and flip it over to check for scratch marks which will most likely be the cause of songs skipping. However, if a song is mysteriously skipping on an Mp3 player or iPod there is no way to fix this problem except to plug the music device into a computer and remove the song, then re-download it and upload it onto the music player once again, leading to much trouble and/or confusion. Though the convenience of a small compact music player is appealing, how convenient is the music player when it constantly breaks?

Though the CD player looks like a hassle to carry around, it is much sturdier then any other music player. Whether dropped onto the ground and scratched from it many drops it is a well made piece of equipment that can survive years of use. While on the other hand after a few drops to the ground the small, compact Mp3 player or iPod will fail to be of any more use. Mainly made with touch-sensitive controls, most Mp3 players and iPods will fail to perform the requested commands because the touch-sensitive controls are also very easily damaged. However, the well made button controls on a CD player is able to last years even if thrown into a bag with objects that can accidentally hit the controls.

In conclusion, for those of you who think the music players of today can surpass the quality and greatness of the CD players of yesterday, you are sadly mistaken. Bright colors, lit-displays and graphics may be enticing but the cost of running a music player that is that energy consuming is costly and not very useful in the long run. Having a music player that you can fix easily yourself in case of error is also much more convenient and will lead to less hassle and confusion, using a CD player you can easily detect where errors are made or appear allowing you to fix these problems yourself easily.

Quality over quaintly applies to our final point. Though larger in size the CD player is better made then most if not all music players available, and able to endure years of use whereas after a few drops to the ground other music players are damaged and unable to operate. CD players are a technological treasure, which are being forgotten and “pushed-aside” as new and flashier music players are made, though, none of them could compare to the value and quality of a CD player.
