IPod Starts Smoking and Explodes Afterward

Ellie Stanborough, an 11-year old girl living in Liverpool, dropped her iPod last week. When she picked it up again, the iPod was producing a hissing noise. Her father noticed that there was smoke coming out of the device. He also felt that is was getting warmer. He threw the iPod outside.

“Thirty seconds later, the iPod flew into the air accompanied with a very loud bang.” Ken Stanborough, the father of the girl, says. Apple, the manufacturer of the iPod, says that they will pay the money back to the family. According to newspaper ‘The Times’, Apple will sue the family if they would not keep this incident secret.

Ken Stanborough contacted Apple and the store where he bought the iPod. Afterwards, Apple sent him a contract in which they promise to refund the money he paid for the device.

He refused to sign the letter. If he, his wife and his daughter would sign the contract, they are not allowed to tell anyone about what happened with the iPod. Apple would sue them if they would do so. “This is utterly disgusting. We didn’t ask a huge amount of money, we only want to receive our money back that we paid for the iPod.” says Ken.

According to The Times, there are several cases of iPods starting to smoke, catching fire and even causing injuries to their owners. Each time, Apple asked the victims not to say anything about it in exchange for a refund.
