First off, you must go to Redsn0w and download the latest version.

Next you must download the ipsw(ipod software) that is used on your ipod/iphone.(you can check this by going to itunes and clicking on your ipod while it is plugged into your computer and it will tell you which ipsw your ipod is running on). Just go on google and search up the ipsw of your ipod/iphone and download it to your computer.( it works best if you download it from firefox)

This next step is for iphone users only. You must download bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6. Here is a link where you can download it from.  http://www.iphone-hacks.com/iphone-downloads/file/109

After downloading these, you are ready to begin.

Begin by starting up redsn0w. The first step will be to browse your computer for the ipsw you downloaded.(It will be located under my documents–>downloads.(If downloaded from firefox, which is highly recommended)

The next screen will ask you what you want. Select Cydia. And if you have an iphone also select unlock.

Next, if using for the iphone, you must locate the two bootloaders.

The next screen will give you instructions on how to put your ipod into restore mode. Follow these and the process will begin. It may take some time for everything to download so just let your ipod sit.

Congratulations! You just jail broke/unlocked your ipod for the first time!
