New iPhone App Turns Phone Into Security Cam
A new iPhone app can turn your iPhone into a great security cam. Spy on others, or keep an area under surveillance; its your call.
There are iPhone apps that allow users to view webcams on the internet, but a new app is here, which will turn the iPhone into a remotely viewable security camera. The app, called IP Camera, is available from iTunes Store for just $1.99. When activated, it will take a snapshot through the camera of the phone every 12-15 seconds and post it on a web page hosted on the local network. This web page can then be accessed from any PC on the same network.
The best thing about the app is that it is extremely easy to use it. All the user has to do is make sure that the Wi-Fi connection is enabled. Then, the user needs to jot down the local HTTP address that the app provides. That’s it. The app will keep on executing in the background and posting images on the local website, which can be accessed using the provided HTTP address. This will go on until the user quits manually, or receives an incoming phone call. However, the app will automatically resume operations as soon as the call is over.
One small drawback that the app suffers from is the inability to archive photos that it takes. The user can stop the app temporarily and save the snapshot that is on the screen at that moment, but that’s it. No backups are maintained, as of now. Also, if the sleep button is pressed while the app is running, the app will freeze up and keep sending the same shot for as long as it is running.
