The Acer Aspire One Nettop: A Review

The Acer Aspire One Nettop: A Review

Looking under the hood.

I was given the use of an Acer Aspire One Nettop for the purpose of doing a review on it. I found the nettop to be an efficient smaller laptop. It opened and closed programs fast. The only time that I could find it slow was on original boot up when it had to open many programs, the OS Microsoft: XP and MacAfee.

It took about a good five minutes before the machine was ready to be used without getting slowed down by start up. This could have been by the big programs and that they are stored on a solid state drive. I was able to load MS office quickly and able to type up this article with very little difficulty. The only other problem I could detect was the smaller keyboard it made me make typos. I got around this by plugging a regular size keyboard into one of the usb ports. The mouse pad was also hard to use. It would shift a page up or a page down if you touched the right side by accident. I got around this by plugging in a regular optical mouse.

But I have to admit my friend is enthusiastic about this nettop. He says once it loads up he can surf the web with ease and because it is light carry it most places in a back pack. I noticed that with the nettop there was no internal fan wheezing to reduce the heat in the laptop. It was a very quiet nettop. It was so quiet that a guy next to me using his laptop sounded alien to me.

The Aspire I tried out cost 300 dollars but the prices are always coming down for nettops and the future ones can only get better.

So in the end would I recommend this nettop? Sure, but would remind the customer it takes some time to load up. So if you are an impatient person you do not want this device. If you have patients and time then this is the right nettop for you,
