The Device That Drives Troublemakers Away
The new device called the Mosquito is driving trouble making youths away.

Recently I watched a program on television and was fascinated by a recent development in technology called the ‘Mosquito’, a sonic deterrent device. The Mosquito was created to emit a sound wave resembling that of a buzzing insect in attempt to stop hundreds of youths from congregating around Theatre Square, in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.
The device is a transmitter that works by sending out a specialized frequency, an ultra sonic tone that can only be heard by younger people under the age of 25 and animals. In trails it has been proven that the longer the youths are exposed to it the more annoying it becomes.
Apparently it is working very well in the Square and since the Mosquito has been installed the local shop owners have been welcoming it because there has been a marked reduction in criminal damage and problems created by youths around the shops.
I am quite certain that because these trails were successful in Swindon a lot of shops will now be acquiring it to drive the troublemakers away.
I have added a link of the sound wave the Mosquito uses, although, I can’t hear it (LOL) I wish I could say I did but if your under 25 years of age you will and/or if your dog stops barking you will know why.

I’ve just played it 5 or 6 times in a row! I’m well over the 25 threshold, but even I find it bloody annoying!!!

Interesting sound. How I wish I had been younger than 25 to get annoyed.

I’ve read that Barry Manilow music does the same thing. Here in the states it’s piped outside stores where teens hang out and they all leave.

One of the shops near where I live has one. Very painful – I’ve complained but they refuse to switch it off. I’m 38.
It’s not as bad as my Dad’s cat scarer – that’s a slightly higher pitch and MUCH louder – leaves my ears ringing.
I’ve asked my doctor about it and he says it will probably be another 15-20 years before I can no longer hear the device, maybe much longer.
