The Dynex Wireless Optical Mouse
Want an inexpensive mouse to use with your laptop computer? Dynex has a reliable, compact, wireless mouse for about $20.
The Dynex Wireless Optical Mouse, Model DX-PWLMSE, is a solid performer that has a number of useful features and only one real drawback. Prices from various sources go as high as $30, but it is readily available for $20 or less.
Wireless devices typically come in two parts – the device itself, and it’s mating USB receiver. The receiver is small and easily lost, or worse. If left plugged into a laptop, it becomes an easily broken protrusion. Dynex includes an easily-accessed storage bay for its receiver inside the mouse, making one less part to keep track of in your laptop bag. When installed in its protective bay, the USB receiver disables the mouse, saving battery power. There is also an Off/On switch on the underside of the mouse for conserving batteries without disconnecting the receiver from your computer.
Installation is quick and painless; just plug the USB receiver into your computer and, if the mouse doesn’t control your cursor within four seconds, press the CONNECT button on the underside of the mouse.
Operating time with the two included high-capacity, AAA, alkaline batteries (similar to Duracell) is over 100 hours. A blinking indicator on the top of the mouse gives you a few days warning before the batteries are spent.
The only possible fault with this device is its range – about five feet. This is fine for use with a laptop but it may be too short when used with a desktop CPU located more than a few feet away from the display and keyboard.
Overall, this is an easy to use, economical, reliable, and handy, self-contained accessory for anyone wanting a mouse for use with their portable computer.
