The Samsung Alias

The Samsung Alias

Pros, cons, facts and tips about the two way flipping device.

The “Samsung” Alias is a keyboard phone that flips two ways.  It has had some mixed feelings brought upon it.    Some say its a bad excuse of a keyboard phone.  Others might say that it’s a good first phone, it has a pretty simple design, and it’s easy to navigate through.

Main screen:

The main screen has a variety of features.  In the top-left corner you will see the service “bars” that describe what the clarity of your calls are going to be in that particular place.  In the top right corner, you will see the battery power left in the phone.  In the top middle section of the screen you can put a title to your phone below the Verizon Wireless.  Towards the center of the screen there is either an analog, or a digital clock, depending on what your settings are. Below this there is the date and time. Underneath that are some settings, Like whether the phone is on vibrate, whether the speaker call setting is on, an alert for a missed call or voice mail.  But if you have none of these and the sound is on, You will just have the option of message, menu, and contacts.  Message will take you to the messaging screen, which consists of the in box, sent, email etc.  Menu will take you the heart of the phone.  This allows you to reach any feature on the phone.  Contacts takes you to all of the numbers that have been programmed into your phone.  Finally there is the background.  The background of the Alias can be a video that you have taken, or it can be a picture you have taken.  Depending on which screen you took the video or picture, it will be distorted on the opposite screen.  either pushed together horizontally, or vertically.

Vertical screen:

This screen is better for calling then anything else.   You can text on this screen, but it’s as if you were “texting” with a phone without a keyboard.  So it defeats the purpose of having this kind of phone.  Pictures are better if they are taken on this screen, along with videos.

Horizontal screen:

This screen is the messaging side.  “Texting” is made much easier with the full alphabet, enter, backspace, shift, space, and number lock.  Calls made on this screen are automatically on speaker phone, which is loud and clear.  Stationary pictures can be taken with this screen.  One of the main issues with this phone is the keys.  The keys are about half the size of other keyboard phones, such as the voyager or the envy.  It makes typing difficult.  Often 2 letters are typed at one time, which makes the message less understandable.  That is, unless you have abnormally small fingers.

loud and clear speaker
