The Sony Daily Edition
New product on the market the Sony Daily Edition.

Technology has come along way in the past few years and with the arrival of the Kindle more companies have jumped on the bad wagon with new e-book readers. Sony as one has a few of the readers on the market and now comes the latest of the e-book readers.
The new Sony E-Reader was launched in late August of this year with many extras. Around the same price as the Kindle but smaller with a 7 inch touch screen, is wireless and has 3G of memory. This new device also lets you rotate in landscape mode as well as regular, and it comes in three different colors. You can buy books from Sony same as you can with the Kindle. The Daily edition also has integration with local libraries with Overdrive which Kindle does not. All you have to do is enter your zip code and this device will put you in contact with the library to see their book list. After 21 days your book will be automatically returned. A really nice feature for those of us who forget to return them now you will have no late fees.
There is not an unlimited checkout at the moment as the libraries have to pay for each copy, so if you want a book and it has all of the copies checked out then you will have to wait for one to be returned before you will get it. Yes I know one step forward two steps back, but the growth potential of this new e book reader is phenomenal.
Sony also said that there will be a few magazines and newspapers available for download with the Daily Edition. Through AT&T’s 3G network consumers can download on the go which is a very good feature. This new device can also store up to 1000 E-books. A huge selection for the book lover.
Sony has a few readers on the market but with this launch is in good shape entering into the holiday season. The Daily Edition can be bought for $299. but the pocket edition is $199. So when you are looking for a great gift for that hard to buy for person on your Christmas list think about the Daily Edition.

‘The paperless newspaper’ eh? Its been coming for years. Supposedly, the ‘paperless newspaper’ is like this and you can take it to your local bookstand, gas station, whatever, and for the cost of current newsprint newspaper, you ‘download’ the day’s paper. From that, you can print-out any coupons, etc., read the news etc., save articles etc., and delete the paper when you’re done.
-No dead trees for printing the day’s paper, no solid waste to bury or incinerate. And before anyone says ‘paper is bio-degradeable’ let me explain; landfills are only build on soils with little/no water-table movement and drainage, and because it is buried, it is low/no oxygen. These conditions favor preservation of paper, and some of the best old newspapers are being ‘discovered’ in landfills that were decommissioned decades ago. The papers are near-perfect condition.
-Have you ever seen those ads for ‘buy a newspaper that was printed on the day you were born” ads? Those! Those came from landfills that were ‘recommissioned’ and dug-up for construction, etc. Some people found these papers and have to dispose of them all over again …and found a way to do so at a hefty profit! SELL THEM!
I welcome the ‘paperless newspaper’ concept and would like one of these for Christmas.

Call me old-fashioned, but nothing will ever take the place of a good book–from the smell of the paper and binding, to the texture of the pages–not to mention what is written inside.
Nonetheless, a good write up as always from you.

I am an absolute tech geek and this gadge is absolutely brilliant! I mean it’s like taking all of your reading stuff with you wherever you go. I was aware of the reader before where you could have ebooks and things but adding mags and news papers to it will just make it bigger and better…brilliant review on a superb piece of tech.
