Why Apple Software Sucks
For those that use Apple be prepared for the annoying updater, useless applications that run in the background as well as the bugs that continue to make apple Itunes not worth the download!
This article comes from experience. I had never liked any of Apple Software. Safari is no better than Firefox (sorry firefox! I really do love you and all the glorius plugins that make the internet so much easier!) Itunes is buggy, and there are installations of extra applications that are useless for the average computer user. Unless you have an Ipod, Itunes is useless.
Sure, you can create your own music library, listen to hundreds of different radio stations, rip your entire cd collection, download and watch tv shows and movies as well as podcasts-Oh! and let’s not forget about moving those songs from your computer to your “Ipod”. But the main point missing here, is that the latest build, 9.0 is just too darn buggy! The first bug I noticed is that it won’t even load the radio stations! Sometimes I find that it hangs while trying to retrieve the stations..that is very annoying. In fact, It’s being taken off my computer right now, along with all it’s other creepy sidekick applications that you won’t know about till your computer starts using LOTS of cpu or you notice there are 5 extra applications running in your task manager.
Apple, you can do better than this!!
Anyway, the second bug I noticed, and this is being on a DSL connection of a speed of 1.5mbps, that downloading a podcast takes HOURS. If I had downloaded a 238mb podcast from another website it wouldn’t take 2 hours to Download! At the most 30 minutes. C’mon, whats up with that. First off, I can’t listen to a radio station and download a podcast without it freezing on me.
And then the updater, the most awesome get in your face updator I have seen yet. It will alert you and let you know when new software is available. Luckily, now in modern days, Apple doesn’t force you to download something you don’t want too – which used to be the problem back in the days.
So, my last rant about the newest Itunes – I do not like the interface. I mean, it’s just way to simple compared to it’s previous versions. Just like the newest version of Safari…The design aspects have gone away. (Although I don’t like bland and I find it is bland as Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6) Aside from the updated look of course. Hell, why not make it glorious like Opera 10 or Maxthon.
The only real piece of software from Apple that might be good for a windows user is Quicktime. Yes, I know there is an alternative, Quicktime Alternative, but you can do a bit more with quicktime files by using the original quicktime. It’ fast, light on cpu and if you are willing to upgrade, it’s a nice price. I hope for Apple’s Sake, someday in the future before 2012 comes around (meteor will be 300 miles from earth) that they might start offering either an Ipod enabled Itunes or just an Itunes for people like myself, that do not own Ipods.
As far as Itunes goes, I think I will be going with it’s open source alternative, songbird.
