Yoostar: The 21st Century Movie Karaoke?

The Yoostar software being launched in August 2009 is like the 21st century movie karaoke – it allows you to star in iconic movie clippings! But here is a closer look at how it works and is buying the kit actually worth the hassle?

Karaoke is one of our most beloved leisure activities and there are so many different games consoles, software etc. that enable you to put those vocal chords to the test. But what if you wanted to be the next Orlando Bloom instead of a future Justin Timberlake? Surely, for all of those film fanatics and budding actors, they should be some kind of acting exerciser. And indeed there is, Yoostar is the 21st century movie karaoke.I was reading a couple of articles on the internet and here is my version of what I’ve researched finishing with my opinion on it.

And?

Getting launched in August 2009, and at $ 169.95 per set, you could have your own studio, in the luxury of your own home! What Yoostar enables you to do is to feature yourself acting in a few iconic movie clippings that are available on the Yoostar website. The pack consists of a web cam with an inbuilt audio facility, a green screen which enables the projection of the movie clipping and a bunch of other things like stands or a “Quad-Pod” and a remote control. The Yoostar software which actually brings back your acting together is compatible with PCs and Macs. The software comes along with 14 scenes (including ‘Some Like It Hot’ and ‘Terminator’) featuring 38 different roles but there are oodles of other scenes that can be purchased and downloaded from $ 0.99 to $ 3.99 per clip. For further details, I suggest www.yoostar.com .

So how does it work?

You set up the software in your computer, the camera system and then set up the green screen. Then you pick your scene and what role you’d like to play from the initial scenes that the software provides for you although if you choose to buy others, you can use them as well. After that (testing) decision, you are ready to shoot yourself. No, not kill yourself (although that may be possible in one of scenes – you never know!), but you can film yourself in that selected role by stepping in between the camera and the green screen and you are ready to go. You can then share this clipping with your friends on any social networking or video sharing sites.]

Below is a video that shows this gorgeous piece of kit in action.

I want to buy one. What do I do?

This link here will enable you to get yourself one of these 21st century gadgets by reserving them beforehand, but unfortunately for any Britons, this kit is only available in the U.S.

It will be available in most online and retail outlets by August 2009 but if the excitement is too much for you, reservation would be the way to go.

The impact on the world?

Karaoke is great, but film karaoke is even better. The involvement in the outcome is a lot greater and this will be the way to go for acting institutions and other acting hobbies and activites. By using actual movie clippings, the interest generated would be greater and even practice would be resting on the enjoyment factor. This will take the world by a storm and once prices reduce, this will be the new thing in everyone’s homes. Who knows? It might even worm its way into games consoles. The very realistic effect generated by this software is a roller coaster ride of very tangible excitement that any one who has dreamed of a glamorous Hollywood career can experience.

Is it going to last long?

Personally, even though I believe that this is a new experience, I doubt if this will last very long purely because acting is a much lesser common hobby than singing is. Some people might feel insecure with the whole acting issue and it might not last long even though the technology behind it is fairly laudable. Also, the small range of clippings so far might limit the buyer especially if he or she isn’t that keen on buying extra clippings. The pricing of each of those clippings means that even though up to $ 4 isn’t very much, each clipping can be used only a few times and it wont be used so many times because then the element of boredom starts to kick in. I do believe that initially, quite a lot of people will take a general interest, especially if there are any budding directors, actors or anyone else considering a career in media. By having extra little hobbies such as this, a portfolio built with clippings like these is always beneficial but if Yoostar works on bettering the software with other versions and adding other interactive features like special effects, the special nature of this software will eventually die out. I expect this kit to thrive in a time where leisure is at a pinnacle but like other tech greats like Apple, Yoostar must continue to better itself. Although, you must admit, the outcome is pretty nifty!

So hope you liked my analysis of this beautiful and ingenious piece of tech and I hope to hear of some of you out there who would like to buy it!
