Easter Gift Ideas
Easter is always a special time of year. Kids and adults alike love giving and receiving gifts, so what can we do for Easter? Here are a few Easter gift and activity ideas to help you out at Easter time.
Gift Ideas
- Easter Eggs – traditional easter eggs were either hard boiled eggs or egg shells (with the yoke blown out) colourfully hand painted. This always adds a special personal touch and is a wonderful idea for children and older, more traditional adults.
- Chocolate – the traditional easter egg has made way for the more commercial chocolate easter egg. You can buy all sorts of chocolate eggs from tiny birds eggs to enormous eggs weighing several pounds. Chocolate eggs will always be a favourite Easter gift and I suggest you give at least one with any other gift you give.
- Teddy Bears – if you want something that will last longer than an egg or chocolate, than a teddy bear would be a perfect gift. Teddy Bears are something that will always remind the person you gave it too about that particular Easter.
- Easter Book – for very young children, giving them a book about the meaning of Easter is a good idea to help them understand why it is celebrated throughout the world. Some children (if not all) may find reading it from the Bible a little difficult so a simpler version is very appropriate.
Activity Ideas
- Treasure Hunt – nothing is more exciting for kids (and adults as well) than to wake up and have to go outside and find their chocolate eggs. This can go for a long time depending on how many you hide and how well you hide them.
- Make your own chocolate – something I do with my children each year is get out of chocolate set and make our own chocolate eggs. All you do is buy some chocolate (in our case several bars of it), melt it down and keep it hot, pour it into egg moulds or any other mould you have and let them cool. To make a solid egg just put some hot chcocolate in between two solid halves and let it set.
- Easter Eggs – spend some time with your partner, children or friends and decorate your own easter eggs. Hard boiled eggs are usually the best option for this so make sure you have plenty ready to go along with a lot of different coloured paints and let everyone go for it. See how many different egg designs you can make.
- Easter story – a very traditional activity which is also good to remind people why we have Easter is to read the Easter story about Jesus Christ and his resurrection.
- Easter movies – for the kids, it is always fun to watch cartoons and movies based on Easter. There are several good classics out there which are usually shown every year without fail.
Australian Easter – Easter Bilby Gift
In Australia, the Easter Bunny has started to be replaced with an Easter Bilby. Rabbits are an introduced species to Australia and aren’t looked upon favourable due to the amount of farming land they destroy. Slowly, the idea of the Easter Bilby has gain popularity and in shops today you can choose between buying a chocolate bunny or a chocolate bilby as a gift. (A bilby is an endangered animal in Australia. They live in desert areas and are liken to a Bandicoot).
