Observing Memorial Day

Observing Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a time to remember the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our country’s freedom. Following are eight ways that we can observe the holiday.

1) Participate in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3:00 p.m. on Memorial Day by pausing for a moment of silence. If you are out driving, turn on your headlights.

2) Fly the American Flag at half staff from sunrise until noon on Memorial Day to honor  our fallen soldiers.

3) Go to a local cemetery and place flowers or flags on the graves of soldiers who have fought and died for our country.

4) Take the family on a tour of a local Military Memorial in your area.

5) Get some friends together and take cards, flowers and baked goods to a local Veteran’s hospital.

6) Wear a red poppy, the Memorial Day flower, to honor those who died while serving our country.

7) Dress in patriotic colors and attend a local Memorial Day parade in your area.

8) Have friends and family over for a backyard cookout or BBQ. Take time to reflect on the holiday’s true meaning.
