Every parent hears the same thing at Christmas and Birthdays..”You can buy them a $200.00 present, and they’ll end up playing with the box instead of the toy!”  Yes, it’s a never ending race every year to buy our child(ren) the latest toy or gadget that they may play with or not.  No big deal- hopefully we can take it back and exchange it.  Well, there is one gift you can give your kids that has been around since I guess the beginning of toys- Blocks!  Blocks are safe, blocks are fun, but you can’t play with only One!  From Lego to Lincoln – foam blocks to velcro blocks- they’re out there, and we’ve had them.  The blocks that have kept my kids and their friends playing over and over again the past 10 years?  The plain old wooden ones!  I can state truly from parent to parent- the Best investment I have ever made in a toy- if you call them a toy- are pieces of wood! 

Don’t get me wrong about the Legos and other kinds of blocks.  No doubtly those are also superb gifts for any child.  I’m simply stating that through the years the plain variety of wooden blocks have prevailed.  Nintendo and Wii hold nothing over the pure creativity and imagination of a child. 

Over time, I have added more and more wooden blocks to the assortment.  The more varieties – the larger and  more elaborate their cities have become over the years.  The kids would pull them out so often to play, that I finally bought a huge basket to dump them in and now keep it under our family room table.  No batteries- No discs- just plug in to a child’s mind, and let those architects Build!
