Butterfly gardening is growing some beautiful flowers and plants that will attract colorful and tiny butterflies to your garden. Your family will also fall in love with your beautiful butterflies. That is why you will want to make sure that you have a safe home for your butterflies. If you own other pets you may need to rethink your plans, because you do not want a cat or dog to eat your butterflies.

How you design your garden is a matter of your own personal taste. Several things to consider are how much space do you have for your garden and what kind of flowers you want to have in your garden. Your garden should not only be attractive to you, but also be attractive to the butterflies that will visit it.

You will need to do a little research to find out the different kinds of butterflies and what kind of flowers they like. You will also need to have a water source in the garden, such as a birdbath or large water container. Make sure that this water source is off of the ground to help protect the butterflies when they are drinking.

Butterflies do not care what color the flowers are in your garden, but you might. So choose colors of flowers that will be attractive together. You will need some tall flowers and some short flowers. And butterflies do not eat the pollen from the flowers, but rather, they drink the nectar. So choose flowers that have tube like flowers with lots of nectar. There is an endless supply of beautiful and colorful flowers when designing your butterfly garden..

One of the first things that you should do is find out what types of butterflies live in your area. You can walk through other flower gardens or in the park and observe the butterflies that are there. Then you can design your own flower garden according to the types of flowers that these particular butterflies like.

Make sure that your garden is located where it can get at least six hours of sunlight everyday. Butterflies like to be warm and have some shelter because they are a cold blooded insect. One of the butterfly’s enemy is the wind. Make sure that you have some type of wind protection around your garden such as some taller plants. Or you can build your butterfly garden against the sunny side of your house and let the wall from your house be a wind breaker. If you use part of your house as protection, try to place your garden under a window so you can enjoy it from inside your house. And don’t forget to place a bench or some type of seating next to your garden so that you will have a place to sit while enjoying the butterflies.

Butterflies can be very relaxing and enjoyable to watch as they fly from flower to flower. And, you can enjoy the lovely flowers in your garden as well.
