Diamonds

A Blessing or Curse?

Diamonds should be known as the “stone-misery” due to the excessive importance they have placed in them from Kimberly big hole formed in the nineteenth century. Throughout history, diamonds have always attracted attention, and with each new discovery of large stone a “history” or the story spread around the jewel and so grew the legend!

During the colonial era, Cecil Rhodes and Charles Rudd founded “De Beers”, a company created to mine and market diamonds, and none have enjoyed such protection of the crown and successive governments since then. This created a diamond monopoly for companies and at a stage that represented more than 80% of world supply and trade of diamonds.

No other company or business has benefited from protectionism, as De Beers and their right to trade in precious stones, raw or uncut diamonds in South Africa and global markets. It was not until the late nineteen eighties its grip on the market began to loosen. However, as the past is not going to be the establishment of so-called divine right ‘to the diamond trade easily.

In South Africa today is still a crime for anyone to trade in uncut rough stones without resorting to De Beers. There is an entire police department known as the diamond and gold Squad, whose sole purpose is to discover and prosecute people who want, or are trying, to do this. “This situation exists in the United States or any country that values the individual’s right to pursue their chosen path to business success? Of course not be tolerated!

Due to the adherence of this company wanted to take the whole diamond market has become one of the most expensive products in all. Its price artificially high, has attracted some of the most notorious and greedy-minded people in the world and has been used to fund the wars in the entire African continent.

At one time or another, the “blood diamonds” (which is what the illegally mined stones known as) have funded dictators, coups and rebels both in West and Central Africa in the last 20 years. There was publicity about these diamonds and the world are encouraged to support or buy at all. However, how to stop people trading in things that one can take as little land and then turn around and get thousands of dollars for it?

You can not!

De Beers – or the Central Selling Organization (CSO is the marketing arm of the company) – has been behind some very successful sales and marketing campaigns in the past 5 decades, starting with the famous marketing slogan “a diamond is forever! ”

Now with the advent of artificial stones made laboratory where you can buy a “diamond” made in the laboratory at 5% of the cost of real stone and not being able to distinguish the difference, there are some people predicting the end of the diamond as we know it. We do not believe that this can happen if the Beers have their way and kept alive only some of the stories that have accompanied this precious stone in the stone become most talked about in history!
