My mom and dad got engaged right before my Father was deployed overseas for his work. While my dad was overseas, he was able to buy a wonderful pair of pearl earrings to give my mom which he planned to give her as a wedding gift. His romantic plan was to present his love with pearl earrings on the night before their wedding. Their love story is really one that is almost perfect and I envy them so much. After being married for thirty-seven years, my parents are still so much in love with each other. My dad stayed true to his word and surprised my mom the night before with pearl earrings. He topped off his gift with a matching pearl necklace. My mom wore all these pieces of jewelry as she walked down the aisle on her wedding. Personally, I really love this story and even more when I say my mother wearing her necklace and pearl earrings in the wedding photos.

During my own wedding day, my mom gave me the very same pearl necklace to wear around my neck. My mom said that it could be my something old and something borrowed. My hands were really shaking as I was attempting to put on pearl earrings and wear them on my ears. Well, I was well aware that these jewelry have brought so much happiness to the years in my parent’s wedding life and I was greatly honored to wear them during my own wedding day, just like my mom did many years ago. Even my dad also got very teary eyed when he looked at me already wearing the necklace and pearl earrings as he was walking down the aisle. He told me once again of the story on how he purchased them for my mom and tucked them inside his bags as he traveled the world. I know that at that very moment, he was so happy for me.

Now, I can just go out and easily buy my own pair of pearl earrings. I think I might just end up buying a pair for myself now that pearl earrings can be purchased in so many jewelry stores. The price of pearl earrings, just like any other jewelry, vary a great deal. For me, however, nothing can still replace the pearl earrings that my mother has. There will come a day when she will pass on these earrings and I will be able to inherit them. Then there will come a time when I will pass along these family treasures to my daughter too. I hope that she can also wear pearl earrings on her wedding. I really like the idea of continuing a tradition within the family. It does not have to be pearls, any kind of family piece or heirloom will do. It can be a simple pin or a ring, bracelet or necklace, it is always nice to have something special that you can hand down to future generations.
