Proper Sale Etiquette
Tell me I’m not the only one that believes in proper sale etiquette. Allow me to share my story …
All right, I might take some heat for being a guy posting this, but I do believe that there is proper etiquette to maintain when dealing with a sale. The number one rule should be: respect other shoppers. I have a prime example of a selfish and narcissistic person I ran into while at a store.
Best Buy had a 50% off sale for anime DVDs. Now, the prices for a box set of anime can run up to $60, so a half-off sale is a godsend for anime fans like me. I was already heading to Best Buy to pick up the season 1 and 2 box sets of Bleach before I even saw the sale signs. But, lo and behold, the box sets I was looking for had already been sold.
Or had they? A fellow shopper had a basket and tote bag (I didn’t realize Best Buy offered tote bags before) filled to the brim with anime DVDs. I’m talking probably $1500 worth of merchandise – sale discount included! I think to myself that perhaps he’s hoarding the Bleach DVDs I want, so I casually ask him if he worked there. He laughs and shakes his head no. Okay, so my plan failed. I just have to settle for some other DVDs, right?
Well, my story doesn’t end there. While I’m looking at the other isles to decide what to buy, I notice the guy is returning some of the DVDs in his stash to the shelf! Seriously, if you’re undecided on some DVDs, please show some common courtesy for your fellow shopper and not stash them! I mean, we all want to take advantage of a great sale, but if you know you don’t have enough money to get everything on your list – this guy did have a list, by the way, that I notice him looking at (I know, I’m sounding like a stalker) – you need to be mindful of other shoppers and take those that are on your top priority! The guy basically had half the anime collection as hostage in his bags; it would be improper for me to rummage through his selection when he was away, right? I deem it wrong to attempt to monopolize a sale, when you know you’re not going to get everything you pick up and you hold on to massive quantities of merchandise.
That’s what I think about proper sale etiquette. What do you have to say?
