How were the animals of the Chinese zodiac decided upon, what years do they represent, and what qualities do they have?

Chinese Astrology signs revolve around the 12 animals. According to legend, Lord Buddha called a gathering of all animals, only 12 came. To honor those that came, he gave each animal their own year ranking them according to who came first.

This is the third part in my “Everyday Art” series which highlights mundane objects turned into extraordinary works of art.
