Marie Antoinette (Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsburg-Lothringen) was born in Vienna on two November, 1755, and she was to become the young Austrian Queen of the King of France and by doing so one of the most reviled women in history.
Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna von Habsbrug-Lothringen was her full name, to history she was known as Marie Antoinette, born on the second of November 1755 as an Archduchess of Austria, but later became the Queen of France and Novarre, she died on the sixteenth of October, 1793.
The purpose of these marriages was to enforce the various complex alliances that Maria Theresa had entered into in the 1750s due to the Seven Years War, which included Parma, Naples, Russia and more importantly Austria’s traditional enemy, France.
The Kings and Queens of France were buried under the Gothic vaults of this sumptuous basilica. The mausoleum of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette appears here in the colorful atmosphere of stained glass windows.
Royalty often commissioned artists to come and paint their portrait. Some members of royal families are known more than others. One monarch is the French Queen from Austria, Marie Antoinette.
