MTG – Top 40 Mountains of All Time
Taking a look at the best looking Mountain cards ever printed.
Just as a reminder, this list was generated in 2009, with the Conflux set being the most recent on the market. Also, all images used here come from www.magiccards.info
I also won’t be talking about all the cards, since the basis for choosing them is on illustrations. There will only be a few scattered blurbs throughout this article. Anyway, take a look!

This is the only Ravnica land that appears on the list because, although this land is cool, it is not really a mountain. All the Ravnica lands are parts of a city, so including any more of them in a list about “mountains” seems silly.
#39

This one is just a little ugly.
#38

#37

Once again, not a mountain. This is more like a plain. A plain of rice paddies. Also, as a side note, this is from a special set of land only released in the Asia-Pacific region for people in that area to connect with MTG.
#36

#35

The colors on this one are a little funky. Kind of pastel-ish. Anyway, as a side note, this is also part of the Asia Pacific land set.
#34

Here is a land from the Portal Three Kingdoms set. These are kind of rare to find printed in English because they were mainly released in China and other Asian countries. However, some were distributed in Australia.
#33

This comes from Fifth Edition. I’d also like to take this time to tell you that if you look, Douglas Schuler, John Avon, and Rob Alexander have done a majority of these lands. They are probably the best artists in MTG.

A real classic. Can’t go wrong with this one. Alpha cards were so out of control.
#29

#28

This is the third mountain ever printed. It comes from the Beta set. Hard to believe there used to only be two different land pictures, isn’t it?
#27

This card, in case you couldn’t tell, is also from Alpha.
#26

This is another Fifth Edition land. John Avon did all the mountains for Fifth Edition.
#25

#24

I don’t know why they don’t make all the lands like this. It would be much cooler.
#23

Based on the illustrations of the Kamigawa mountains they should all have the prefix “Snow-Covered”.
#22

#21

This is a prize from 2003 Arena League.
#20

#19

#18

#17

This is one of the lands only released in the special European land program. Yet another attempt to get players from foreign countries to play MTG.
#16

#15

#14

This land also comes from Fifth Edition. The mountains from this set all seem to look similar, though in different seasons. This was probably John Avon’s intention.
#13

Also Fifth Edition.
#12

This is another land form the 1996 Arena League. This one looks a little more like a forest, but it looks so cool that it couldn’t be passed up.
#11

This land comes from the 2005 Arena League. Even the promotional Kamigawa land looks “Snow-Covered”.
#10

#9

#8

Another land from the Asia Pacific program. I believe this is showing Mt. Fuji in Japan.
#7

Coming from Mirage, this card looks more like sand dunes than mountains, but given the set, it looks great and really fits the theme. Plus, this is still much more of a mountain card than the Ravnica lands. Blech!
#6

Am I the only one that thinks every Shadowmoor land looks like it could be a swamp? Also, the rocks in the upper left corner looks like a Kavu’s mouth.
#5

Wow, a stunning land from the European land program. All the European and Asia Pacific lands are replications of real geographic features of the land there. This mountain really exists somewhere! How cool!
#4

This was released around the time the Asia Pacific program was. The lands depict the phases of a double eclipse. They were released in an attempt to get people to teach their friends how to play MTG. This small set of lands that were released are called Guru lands.
#3

Mountains have always tapped for red mana, and red mana has always been a little fireball. It’s about time that a mountain is spewing fire. A volcano, just what we always wanted! Aside from the actual card Volcano.
#2

This land is another from the European land program. If not for that weird little guy walking around in the lower left corner, this may have been number one!
#1

You can argue if you want, but I think that this is the best Mountain ever. The sunset with the lake is great. And it has a whole mountain range! Really great.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this look at the land. Thanks for reading!
