Zune Hd vs. iPod Touch

Zune Hd vs. iPod Touch

A couple of videos giving reviews and an introduction of the all new Zune HD by Microsoft.

Introduction, shows older Zune models and the all new Zune HD set to release September 15Th, 2009.

Prices start at $219.99 for the 16GB model. The 32GB model will be available for $289.99.

The iPod Touch costs $229 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 16GB model, and $399 for the 32GB model.

The Zune HD’s screen is 3.3″ and is an OLED touchscreen. That is simply a newer version of LED that uses less electricity and produces a better picture. The resolution is 480×272. The Zune HD has HD radio, and you can tag songs you like for purchase later. A feature that warrants the HD name, is the ability to output 720p video from the Zune onto a HDTV. The new Zune has wifi and a customized Internet Explorer said to best Apple’s Safari, which is some feat. It includes tap to zoom, an accelerometer, and a onscreen virtual QWERTY keyboard.

By contrast, Apple’s iPod Touch includes a slightly larger 3.5″ LED touchscreen at 320×480. The resolution is slightly higher also, but the Zune HD’s screen should best the iPod’s because it is an OLED. The iPod does not include a radio, let alone an HD radio. The iPod also costs $9.95 to upgrade to the latest software version, which provides very little improvements. If you buy more than 15 songs per month on iTunes, you are spending more than you would be on Microsoft’s Zune Marketplace. Microsoft offers unlimited music downloads for $15 a month. Which one is more expensive now? Of course, at the Zune Marketplace you can still buy your songs individually, although the unlimited plan might work better.

Personally I prefer the Zune, it looks far better, has better software, and is far cheaper. Did I mention WAY faster? Microsoft scored a touchdown when they bundled nVidia’s Tegra GPU with the Zune HD, it offers unprecedented speed and battery life. It often offloads workload from the CPU to the GPU with is far more efficient. There is no information available about what procession components Apple is using in their iPods, but nVidia has confirmed that Apple is not using Tegra.
